Background

The Jordan Loan Guarantee Corporation (JLGC) and Islamic International Arab Bank (IIAB) have introduced a new programme to help micro and small retailers access financing and maintain smooth business operations.

The “Retail Guarantee” programme was launched through a partnership agreement signed by JLGC Director General Adnan Naji and IIAB General Manager Iyad Asali. The initiative aims to provide credit support for retailers to manage working capital requirements, purchase stock and continue daily activities.

The agreement was announced during a signing ceremony attended by Central Bank of Jordan Governor Adel Sharkas and representatives from the financial sector.

Sharkas said supporting small businesses remains an important part of Jordan’s efforts to improve financial access and encourage economic growth. He noted that guarantee programmes help banks provide financing to businesses by reducing lending risks and supporting productive sectors.

The new programme focuses on the retail sector, which plays an important role in connecting suppliers and consumers. Through credit guarantees, the initiative will help retailers secure the funds needed to maintain inventory and strengthen their role within local supply chains.

Naji said JLGC continues to develop financing solutions that meet the needs of different business sectors. He added that supporting small enterprises is essential for improving business stability and encouraging sustainable growth.

Asali highlighted the importance of cooperation between banks and guarantee institutions in creating practical financial solutions for retailers. He said the partnership with JLGC will help expand financing opportunities and support economic activity.

The programme is part of wider efforts by Jordan’s banking sector and JLGC to increase the reach of guarantee services and provide greater support for smaller businesses. The initiative aims to strengthen local commerce by helping retailers access the resources needed to grow and continue operations.
