The agreement highlights the strengthening energy partnership between Qatar and Malaysia. Officials said the deal shows mutual trust and a shared commitment to a sustainable energy future, while also boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy, said: “QatarEnergy is pleased to enter into this new LNG SPA with Petronas, which highlights our continued commitment to support the growing energy needs of Malaysia and customers worldwide.”

The SPA underscores Qatar’s expanding position as one of the world’s leading LNG suppliers, as the country pursues major production growth projects aimed at boosting its export capacity later this decade. QatarEnergy emphasized that the agreement also aligns with its broader goal of strengthening global partnerships and promoting cleaner energy solutions.

In a related development, QatarEnergy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and JERA, the nation’s largest power generation company, during the same conference. The MoU ensures QatarEnergy will supply Japan with additional LNG in emergency situations, such as natural disasters, further reinforcing the country’s reputation as a reliable and trusted energy provider.

The signatories of the SPA were Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi and YM Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz, President and Group CEO of Petronas. Both sides described the agreement as a long-term commitment to energy security, sustainability, and economic growth.
