Key Background

The launch of Al-Jawhara Tower in Damascus is a new chapter in Saudi-Syrian cooperation, this time on reconstruction and economic growth. Bankrolled by Ethraa Holding and supported by the Saudi Ministry of Investment, the $100 million mega-project takes up enormous 25,210 square meters of space and unites hospitality, office, and retail facilities with cutting-edge infrastructure.

Architecturally, the tower consists of two blocks of 15-story luxury offices and hotel rooms, each of about 6,500 sqm area. Other features will consist of 1,300 sqm of shopping facia, four parking space basements of a total area of 2,400 sqm, and one al fresco restaurant intended to offer panoramic views over Damascus city. The multi-purpose development is evidence of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to constructing sustainable business hubs alongside forming Syria’s urban image.

The project inauguration follows the Saudi-Syrian Investment Forum, during which Riyadh revealed an expanded $5 billion investment plan in real estate, logistics, tourism, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Some of these include the Adra Industrial City-established Fayhaa White Cement Factory worth $20 million and providing more than 1,000 jobs.

Saudi investments under its new project are also aimed at further strengthening economic cooperation with Syria following the restoration of bilateral diplomatic relations and re-opening of its embassy in Damascus in 2024. Volumes of trade have also received a boost with Saudi non-oil imports from Syria rising more than 153% month-on-month year-on-year in April and Saudi imports from Syria rising by nearly 150%. Its major trading products are plastics, vegetable products, chemicals, and processed foods.

Saudi Arabia is restating its official endorsement of Syria’s revival and putting itself at the forefront of the nation’s eventual economic rebound in light of the celebration of the opening of Al‑Jawhara Tower.
