Key Background:
Atlantis Dubai will give over $500,000 to support marine conservation and sustainability projects through the Atlantis Atlas Project for 2025-26. Since 2021, the programme has helped 30 projects worldwide to protect the ocean and raise awareness.
This year, Atlantis Dubai raised $123,000 between June 2024 and May 2025 through guest participation in green meetings and marine animal experiences. The Conservation & Science Committee reviewed project proposals based on their impact on science, the environment, and sustainability.
In the case of 2025-26, seven projects have been selected. The Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, a new partner, will also invest in the UAE youth aged under 18 years old and interested in conservation by offering funding, mentoring, and experience.
Returning projects include the UAE Dolphin Project, led by Dr Ada Natoli at Zayed University, which will continue boat surveys and monitoring of dolphin populations along the UAE coastline. The programme also supports Goumbook in expanding its ‘Save The Butts – Waste to Value’ campaign, engaging over 100 high school students in citizen science projects studying microplastics and their effects on coral reefs.
Further funding continues for the IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group, SAFE Shark and Ray, EVF’s Whale and Dolphin Protection Team, and the Marine Megafauna Foundation, supporting global research, species conservation, genetic studies, and citizen science initiatives focused on sharks, rays, whale sharks, and endangered dolphins.
Kelly Timmins, Executive Director of Marine Animal Operations and Sustainability at Atlantis Dubai, commented: “We are proud that the Atlantis Atlas Project has raised over half a million dollars to support 30 impactful initiatives. “These projects show creativity, expertise, and commitment to protecting the ocean and promoting sustainability,” said Atlantis Dubai.
With this initiative, Atlantis Dubai continues to lead in sustainable tourism, showing that luxury hospitality and conservation can work together.
